Mom’s Garden

When visiting my Mother, a month or so ago, we took a stroll as we always do in Mom’s flower garden. It’s fun to see what new beauties may have popped up since the last visit. I’ve never seen a poinsettia growing in the ground before verses in a pot at the store. So much to my surprise, when I saw some bright red leaves coming out of the ground I had to look twice. The plant was beautiful and arriving just in time for the Holidays.

I love to photograph beautiful flowers, plants, and/or something in nature that I find interesting or beautiful.
After photographing I spend time in the studio looking at my treasures deciding what I am about to paint. I enjoy painting botanicals for the simple reason that I get to spend some time one on one with the flower really looking and enjoying it’s beauty longer. What I see comes out through my hands onto the paper with paint as I try to capture the details of nature.

I have a garden too, not as nice a Mom’s garden, though. I’m so thankful for the gift of loving and growing beautiful flowers that she has given me. I’ve found it especially nurturing in these current times of uncertainty.  Thanks Mom!

This quote says it all:

THE GLORY OF GARDENING
Hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body but the soil.  ~ Alfred Austin
